The doctor should be vigilant and should monitor the pregnancy closely to prevent or diagnose anything wrong early on.<\/p>\n<p><strong>These pregnancies can cause problems such as: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reduced fetal growth rate<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Premature birth<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Preeclampsia<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Placenta problems<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Bleeding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>However, a high-risk pregnancy does not mean that complications will occur for either the fetus or the mother.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Reasons that classify a pregnancy as high-risk are complications which may occur during pregnancy or pre-existing health or pathological conditions.<\/p>\n<h2>What are the factors that pre-exist and classify a pregnancy as high-risk from the beginning?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0The mother being under the age of 17 or over the age of 35<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Overweight or underweight (weigh less than 46 kg) mother<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Height is less than 1.5 meters<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Problems that occurred in a previous pregnancy such as premature birth, fetal loss, preeclampsia, or diabetes<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Three or more miscarriages in the past<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Fibromyomas<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0More than 5 births<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Taking certain medications such as lithium, Depakene<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Health problems and illnesses such as chronic hypertension, diabetes, epilepsy, kidney disease, cancer, heart valve disease, sickle cell disease, asthma, lupus erythematosus, or rheumatoid arthritis<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Pregnancy after infertility treatment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Factors which can classify a high-risk pregnancy:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Gestational diabetes and hypertension that did not exist before but occurred during pregnancy<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0More than one fetus (multiple pregnancy)<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Premature birth (going into labor before 37 weeks)<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Infections during pregnancy such as cytomegalovirus, chickenpox, rubella, toxoplasmosis<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Genetic conditions of the fetus such as Down Syndrome or heart, lungs, or kidneys problems<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Alcohol consumption or smoking<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Fever<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Monitoring a high-risk pregnancy:<\/h2>\n<p>A woman with a high-risk pregnancy is being monitored as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>More frequent medical visits<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Specialized tests and examinations (depending on the problem)<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Blood tests<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Amniocentesis<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Ultrasound and monitoring of the fetus<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Women with pre-existin risk factors before pregnancy should visit their obstetrician before becoming pregnant and immediately after their positive pregnancy test<\/li>\n<li>Sexual intercourse should be avoided<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Pregnant women should maintain a healthy diet<\/li>\n<li>In case of bleeding, should contact the doctor or midwife immediately.<\/li>\n<li>Sexual intercourses should be avoided<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1614694718906{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}&#8221;] What is a high-risk pregnancy?
